One of the Perth Mint’s most popular new coin programs is the Australian Silver Emu. Introduced in 2018, this series offers some of the many trademark design and production features of other Perth Mint products, including new annual designs on the reverse and limited mintage figures. The 1 oz silver coins in this series are available individually inside of protective capsules. Multiples can be purchased in sealed rolls of 20 coins or mint-sealed boxes of 100 with five rolls inside of the box.

Alongside the ostrich, the emu is one of the world’s largest flightless birds. Its distant cousin is, in fact, the only bird alive today that is larger than the emu. Like many of the other animals featured on Perth Mint coins, the emu is endemic to the Australian continent and is the largest bird on its home continent.

Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of 2021 1 oz Australian Silver Emu Coins. Her Majesty is shown here in the popular right-profile portrait from Jody Clark. This effigy was created in 2015 for the Royal Mint of England as the fifth-generation design on British coins. Adapted for use on Australian coins starting in 2018, this effigy is the sixth of the Queen to feature on Australian coins and is the first since 1966 to include her shoulders in the portrait.

Two emus are shown in the reverse field of 2021 Australian Silver Emu Coins. This all-new design shows an adult emu standing on the banks of a small body of water with its young hatchling close by. The banks of the small pond have reeds on the shoreline offering cover with small hills visible in the distant background.
