In 2008, Cryptologist "Satoshi Nakamoto" published "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System", setting the stage for what would become the most valuable private currency the world had ever seen. Igniting an entirely new industry of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, the combined value of Bitcoin and its copycats was more than three-quarters of a trillion dollars by the time Satoshi's publication turned 10 years old.

2018 was a long year for the fledgling currency. Its first few years passed in relative obscurity, followed by a few years of ups and downs.
